Geovanni hopes to earn stay at City by firing them into Europe

Geovanni wants to earn a longer deal at Manchester City by firing them into the Champions League.

The Brazilian is already a cult hero after his winner in the Manchester derby but Sven Goran Eriksson only signed him on a one-year contract.

Great start: Geovanni gets on the right side of City fans early by scoring the winner in the Manchester derby

Now the 27-year-old former Barcelona and Benfica man wants to remain at the City of Manchester Stadium longer and hopes to earn an extension by guiding the Blues into Europe.

"I have played in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup and I would like to go there with City," Geovanni said. "I would like to see City in the Champions League.

"I'm grateful to Sven for giving me a chance and helping me on the pitch and in training. I hope things work out."

Geovanni also hopes his form will see him add to his four Brazil caps.

"The dream of every footballer is to play for their national team," he added. "I hope I will get my chance."
