Get used to me being more involved at Anfield, Hicks tells Liverpool fans

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has signalled his desire to play a a more prominent role in the club's future, despite opposition from fans at Anfield.

Supporters angered by the ownership of Hicks and fellow American George Gillett Jr. last week launched a member-share scheme to try to raise £500million for a takeover bid.

But Hicks insists he won't be driven into selling his stake to either "Share Liverpool FC" or the UAE-based group Dubai International Capital.

Speaking at the Texas Rangers baseball club which he also owns in Arlington, Texas, Hicks said: "I'm anticipating a more active role in Liverpool. I really don't want to comment any more at this point."

Hicks wouldn't be pressed on the club's financial stability and level of indebtedness.

The attempted fans' takeover was prompted by heightened concerns about the debts stemming from a £350m refinancing deal agreed last month on the loan used to purchase the Reds a year ago.

Fan anger also stems from the perceived undermining of popular manager Rafa Benitez, after former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann was approached by Hicks as a possible replacement.

Liverpool currently stand fifth in the Premier League standings, 17 points behind the leaders Arsenal.
