Giggs: I could never leave Manchester United and go to another club

Ryan Giggs harbours a secret ambition to win an 11th Premier League title to match the number that he has worn on the back of his Manchester United shirt for more than 15 years.

And as he reflected on the 19th major honour of his career, the 34-year-old confirmed that he will finish his career at his one and only club.

Number 19: Giggs celebrates another trophy on Wednesday night with Patrice Evra

"I will play for United until the end of my career,"said Giggs. "I won't go anywhere else."

With Giggs about to enter the final year of his contract and no longer an automatic pick in Sir Alex Ferguson's team, it has been suggested that he may look to end his career at a club that can guarantee him regular football.

But he added: "I don't think I can play all the time anyway. Not at 34, 35. And I've played 40-odd games this season. That's more than a lot of people. I played 40-odd last season, too.

"So, all right, towards the end of the season I've not been starting games and have been coming on and trying to use my experience. But I've played a lot of games this season. We'll see next year."

Ferguson paid Giggs an appropriate tribute on Wednesday night after one of his favourite players set United's all-time appearance record (759) and even suggested that he may be able to play until he is 37.

"Did he say that?" asked Giggs. "I don't think I will. But I'm enjoying it, of course. I enjoy nights like this. I enjoyed winning the Premier League and I'm enjoying my football more than ever. We have to just wait and see, but I've got another year left."

Rio Ferdinand joined Giggs to lift the trophy for United at the Luzhniki Stadium, an appropriate gesture as both men have captained the club in Gary Neville's absence this season.

And Ferdinand spoke fondly of one of the Old Trafford dressing room's most admired players.

"It was only right that me and Ryan lifted it because he IS Man United," said Ferdinand.

He's just phenomenal.

"And the thing is, he's just come on and he's made an impact straight away. He could have scored but JT had a good header to clear off the line.

"Ryan's fantastic. I don't think you can put into words what type of player he is and what he means to football. I think he's not thought of as highly as he should be.

"When he retires, people will appreciate him a lot more. It's a shame really because he's a fantastic servant not only to this club but also to football.

"To play so many games anyway is unbelievable but to play them for one club is unheard of really since Sir Bobby Charlton.

"And in today's football where there is such a merry-go round of different players going to different clubs, I don't think he'll be matched."
