Golden Graham chops down wasteful Forest

A defensive mix-up cost Nottingham Forest the chance to move into the automatic promotion places. Instead it was Carlisle who climbed into second place, opening up a five-point gap over Forest.

Forest paid for missing a succession of outstanding chances before Danny Graham's 71stminute winner.

Danny Graham: Vital winner

Kris Commons twice failed to finish incisive moves early on. First, he fired wide with his weaker right foot and then squandered an even better chance with his favoured left.

The visitors had only a wild long-range shot from Grant Smith to punctuate the flow of Forest attacks.

Julian Bennett had a fierce header brilliantly tipped over by Keiren Westwood. A goal-bound header from Commons was also blocked by defender Peter Murphy.

Carlisle, frustrated to have penalty claims rejected when Grant Holt dragged down Evan Horwood just before the break, started the second half with much more aggressive intent but Marc Bridge-Wilkinson twice missed decent chances.

The winner came when David Raven threaded the ball forward, leading to confusion in the Forest defence.

Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith came out and attempted to gather the ball but, under pressure, he let it slip out of his grasp and Graham took advantage of the loose ball with a low, angled drive.
