Luke Donald has pulled out of next week's Open Championship as he is still suffering from the wrist injury that caused him to withdraw from last month's US Open.
The 30-year-old Englishman is unlikely to be fit for another month, meaning he faces a race against time to be ready for Europe's Ryder Cup team.
Out of The Open: Luke Donald has seen his progress hampered by a troublesome wrist injury.
Even if he has fully recovered, he would almost certainly have to rely on a wild-card from captain Nick Faldo.
Donald said: 'I place The Open at the top of the list of tournaments I play, so it's extremely disappointing to have to pull out.
'The fact it is also a Ryder Cup year makes it even more frustrating. But you can't account for these type of injuries, and I have to concentrate on my long-term health.'
