Gomes: After Berbatov, Ramos has the players to reach Champions League

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has weeded out the rubbish from his squad and can now look forward to a Champions League challenge.

That's the view of Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes who insists the one point return from the opening three Premier League games is simply a case of Ramos fine tuning and establishing his best starting line up.

And the Brazilian £7.8m former PSV Eindhoven star insists former striker Dimitar Berbatov is no loss either.

Ahead of tonight's home clash with Aston Villa, Gomes told The Sun: 'Our poor start is due mainly because Juande Ramos was still tuning up the squad. Now he knows who he can and can’t count on.'

It is the start of a run of three home games in six days for Spurs and Gomes is confident Berbatov's departure will not affect the quest for Champions League football.

He added: 'Berbatov is a great player but he had an opportunity that was not only good for him, but for the club and now he’s left so we move on.

'Our team remains strong, even without him, and with the same will to fight for the top four places.'
