Gough's fancy footwork trips up sorry Surrey

Darren Gough left the door ajar for the England selectors to offer him a recall after Yorkshire inflicted Surrey's second-heaviest runs defeat in the championship at The Oval.

Not since 1911, when Surrey crashed to a 353-run defeat against Middlesex, have they been crushed so comprehensively.

The margin of Yorkshire's win was 346, an overwhelming defeat inflicted just two-and-a-half hours after play began on the final day.

Yorkshire's new captain described the performance as awesome', heaping praise on his entire attack for destroying newly-promoted Surrey's batting.

The only player he forgot to praise was himself, a serious omission given the form he showed in dismissing former Test colleague Mark Ramprakash.

Gough's Strictly Come Dancing rival had reached five when his old England colleague trapped him anchored to the crease.

It was Ramprakash's first dismissal for a singlefigure score in a firstclass match since August 2005.

That started a pre-lunch rout in which Surrey lost six wickets for 29, and they perished half-an-hour after the break. Gough said: "Surely it would be stupid for England to pick me now but I'm always available for emergencies."
