Darren Gough has enjoyed a long and successful career at both county and international level
Darren Gough has been dropped from Yorkshire's squad to face Sussex in their final County Championship match, bringing to an end his illustrious first-class career.
The selection is believed to be due to fatigue on Gough's part.
He played his final home match for Yorkshire against Somerset at Scarborough last week, which is now likely to be his last outing in professional cricket.
After the game, he said: 'I wanted to go out in style and that proved to me I am ready to retire. I am absolutely shattered now.
'I bowled as quick as I have for a long, long time in that first spell.'
'When I look back I'm glad my last wicket was Justin Langer.
'I've had some great battles against him and it's nice to know my last wicket in Yorkshire was someone as good as him.
Gough played for 15 years for his home county before moving to Essex in 2004.
He then returned for the 2007 season as captain.
He made his England debut in 1994, and starred in the Ashes series in Australia on his first tour.
When he retired from Test cricket in 2003, Gough had taken 229 wickets.
He continued to play one-day international, and made his final appearances for England in Pakistan in 2006.
