Smith's team can inflict a first-ever home whitewash on the Aussies if they follow up wins in Perth (by six wickets) and Melbourne (nine wickets) with victory in the Third Test in Sydney, which starts on 3 January.

Smith, whose 1,656 runs make him the highest scoring Test player of the year, said: "It's got to be our best moment.
