Resuming in joint second place, one behind 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero, Storm moved from six under par to 10 under.
The player he least wanted to see behind him was last week's winner Edoardo Molinari but the Italian was pushing hard today with birdies in three of the first four holes on the back nine, which took him to eight under.
Molinari's victory at Gleneagles was followed an hour later by a wild-card call into Europe's Ryder Cup team, the new world No15 being preferred both to eighth-ranked Paul Casey and two-time US Tour winner Justin Rose.
This is the 29-year-old Italian's last event before next month's Celtic Manor clash and after 23 holes he had not dropped a shot.
