Grant on course to pick up pro-licence

Avram Grant is celebrating a breakthrough in the row over his coaching credentials after the Israel Federation set up their first pro-licence course.

The Chelsea manager will attain qualifications needed to manage in the Premier League during a two-week programme in February and there were claims in Tel Aviv last night that federation chiefs are urging UEFA to grant his licence now.

Grant held lengthy talks with president Avi Luzon yesterday and was told that UEFA had sanctioned an initiative that will lead to around a dozen Israeli coaches attending the course.

Grant went to watch Ajax's Klaas Jan Huntelaar in Holland's 1-0 defeat by Romania in Bucharest on Saturday, but the striker was left on the bench.

Liverpool winger Ryan Babel also started on the bench after being dropped by Holland boss Marco van Basten as a punishment for oversleeping for a second time.
