He said: "I was surprised to be sent off. If you are speeding at 60mph sometimes you are not caught when you drive at 70mph and sometimes you are caught when you drive at 61mph. I drove at 60-and-a-half mph.

"I don't think I'll appeal because I don't know what I have been charged with. At the end of the day I don't think I have done a lot to create a fracas."

Wenger will have to watch the game against Steaua Bucharest on 12 December from the stands but could be hit with an even longer ban by UEFA.
