Gunners boss Wenger sets his sights on new defender

Arsene Wenger has conceded he may have to buy a defender next month as cover for his Arsenal stars on African Nations Cup duty.

The Gunners boss is reluctant to spend if he does not have to but may have no other options and said: "In midfield we have plenty of players.

"The only area we might be a bit short is at the back because we have Kolo Touré and Emmanuel Eboue going to the African Nations Cup.

"We might have Johann Djourou back though. We have the option to recall him (from Birmingham)."
