Gunners on track for Nasri despite denials

Arsenal are confident they will complete the £15.8million signing of Samir Nasri from French club Marseille in the next few days.

Nasri announced on his personal website last night he had already signed a four-year contract with Arsenal, only for his agent Jean-Pierre Bernes and Marseille to deny an agreement had been reached yet.

Bernes said: "Discussions are continuing between the clubs and the player.

"Nothing has been finalised, no element of the transfer has been finalised and everybody is still talking. It is premature to announce anything at all."

Marseille spokeswoman Nathalie Paoli also added that the deal "still has to be finalised between Arsenal and Olympique Marseille". But it should only be a matter of time as Arsene Wenger is determined to add Nasri to a squad which has already lost Mathieu Flamini to

AC Milan, who have also been courting Emmanuel Adebayor.

Alexander Hleb is another player who could also be on the move with Barcelona touted as a possible destination.

Wenger spoke of his admiration for Nasri, who has been compared with Zinedine Zidane, earlier this month and said: "At 21 years old his whole future is ahead of him and he has quite a margin for progressing further.

"He has, in any case, the qualities needed to assert himself at the highest level."

Wenger has already signed one young talent this summer with the £5m capture of Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff.

The 17-year-old midfielder was also a target for Manchester United and Everton.
