Hamburglars nick Nigerian youngster from grasp of Premiership's big guns

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal have missed out to Hamburg on Nigerian youth star Macauley Chrisantus.

The 17-year-old had attracted interest from the Arsenal - as well as Chelsea. Tottenham and Liverpool - but he opted for a move to Germany.

Chrisantus won this year's under-17 World Cup title with Nigeria and scored seven goals.

Chrisantus will receive a contract with Hamburg's reserves, before it is changed into a long-term professional contract when he turns 18 next August, the club said Tuesday.

He will be able to play in the Bundesliga even before then.
