Hamilton comes clean over his controversial move to Switzerland

Lewis Hamilton will tonight come clean over the $64million question: what first attracted him to the tax haven of Switzerland.

Speaking on ITV's Parkinson programme, Hamilton will tell us what we all suspected, namely that it has something to do with dodging the Inland Revenue.

Parkinson asks him: 'Well, you say you are going to avoid the photographers and all that, but I will imagine that you have been advised to do so because of the tax also?'

Hamilton, whose career earnings are predicted to exceed £100m, replies: 'That definitely adds to it.'

Hamilton's belated explanation will come as a relief to many fans, who thought his previous uncharacteristically evasive explanation was an insult to their intelligence given his high-profile itinerary.

He has been pictured lapping up applause at Wembley, taking the stage at TV awards and launching his autobiography in Trafalgar Square.

Admittedly, his move will give him some privacy, as the 22-year-old told Parkinson: 'I am just a normal person and it's quite an unreal experience. I have come from nowhere and been leapfrogged into being this superstar.

'I went to my book signing with my dad and we drove home, got out of the car and got ambushed almost by people who followed us all the way home.

'You sort of worry for a second. What do they want? And that's becoming more usual.

'I love my fans and it makes a huge difference when I get home and I find I have all these letters. But I really want to live a normal life if I can, away from the race track.'

Renault, meanwhile, have defended themselves against accusations of using McLaren secrets.

They face a World Motor Sport Council hearing on December 6 after McLaren lodged a complaint.

Renault admit that former McLaren engineer Phil Mackereth, suspended since September 6, brought over floppy disks that included engineering drawings and technical spreadsheets, but added: 'None of this information was used to influence design decisions relating to the Renault car.'

McLaren's dossier suggests the material was seen by 15 Renault engineers, including chief designer Tim Densham.
