Hamilton, a national hero after taking the Grand Prix world by storm in his debut season with McLaren, is finalising plans to move to a country which would be a haven not only from the British taxman but also from the celebrity spotlight.

Hamilton, 22, from the Hertfordshire village of Tewin, had previously insisted he wanted to stay in Britain, despite the pressures of dealing with his new-found fame.

But wellplaced sources have revealed that he will soon follow the example of fellow British drivers David Coulthard and Jenson Button, who have both made their homes as tax exiles.

Hamilton, though, will head for Switzerland rather than the F1 drivers' playground of Monaco.
