Hammers to probe Bellamy outburst

Tempestuous striker Craig Bellamy is at the centre of controversy again after police were called to investigate a comment made by the Welsh international to a fan as he left the field at Ipswich.

Bellamy, no stranger to controversy, was forced off after 24 minutes in West Ham's 5-3 win at Portman Road with what looked like a hamstring problem - one which could keep him out of the start of the season.

As he left the pitch he appeared to make a comment to a fan and a complaint was subsequently made to police.

Bellamy was questioned and West Ham were looking into the matter today before making any comment.

The striker's injury is a blow to West Ham manager Alan Curbishley, who also saw Anton Ferdinand injured during the match and comes just after news that Kieron Dyer, who broke his leg almost a year ago, won't be fit until November after a stress fracture was diagnosed.

Curbishley was looking forward to partnering Bellamy and Dean Ashton in the opening match of the season against Wigan but may now have to change his plans. The Hammers were already looking to sign another striker following the departure of Bobby Zamora to Fulham and will now step up their search.
