Hankey not 'Counted' out by booing as title challenge gains strength

Ted Hankey did not mind the booing last night as he eased into the quarter-finals of the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

The 'Count' had been angry during his first round defeat of Steve West because of abuse he received from the crowd at Frimley Green, calling a section of them 'idiots'.

But as he comfortably beat Stoke's Andy Boulton 4-1, he had no worries when he was booed on to the stage and in between sets.

Hankey, the No 7 seed from Shropshire, who won the Lakeside crown in 2000, said: 'It was all about fun tonight and we will forget about it because it was the other night. It's gone.'

After the match against West, Hankey had said 'that kind of behaviour does not have a place here'.

Hankey regularly practises hitting double top and that paid off in style as he won eight legs with that finish.

'I cannot believe how well it went in,' he added. 'But I know once I get that line right, I will hit it every time.'
