Hargreaves ruled out of England Euro ties

Midfielder Owen Hargreaves will miss England's vital Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia this month after succumbing to further knee trouble.

The Manchester United player missed last night's 1-0 Champions League victory over Roma at Old Trafford after breaking down in training on Monday afternoon and this latest setback is another blow for England boss Steve McClaren.

Last night, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Hargreaves has had an injection in the knee which will rule him out for approximately four weeks.

Ferguson said: 'We thought he was coming on and even thought he had a chance for this match but he broke down again. Now we have decided to give him an injection to try and clear it up once and for all.

'It is tendinitis in the knee and he should be out for four weeks. But there will be no need for an operation.'

England face Estonia at Wembley a week on Saturday and then travel to Moscow for the crucial game against Russia four days later.
