Harry Redknapp still wants to be England manager

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he still hasn't given up hope of managing England one day.

The 61-year-old also insisted that he wants to finish his club career at Fratton Park and will not quit Portsmouth after tomorrow's FA Cup Final against Cardiff.

The former West Ham manager told Standard Sport it is true that off-the-field problems over the past 12 months have affected him deeply but he has no desire to walk away from football.

Redknapp said: "I think most people in this country would like to see an Englishman manage England.

"I haven't given up hope. It's a great opportunity. There are six players in that England squad who I signed as kids.

"Given the opportunity I am sure I could do a job."

Redknapp admitted he is still concerned about his wife Sandra, who was left traumatised last November when City of London police officers raided the family home in Dorset when she was alone in the house.

The family were also left grief-stricken by the recent death of Sandra's younger sister Pat, who was married to Frank Lampard, father of the Chelsea midfield star.

But he insisted: "I love it here at Portsmouth. I enjoy coming in here to training every day. I'll stay here until I'm not wanted.

"I don't feel any older, any different," he said. "I've got a good team here and the owner, Sasha Gaydamak, treats me well."
