Hedgehunter ready to take hurdles route

Hedgehunter, the 2005 John Smith's Grand National winner, is set for a return to action over hurdles this weekend.

The 12-year-old is one of nine entries from the Willie Mullins yard for Saturday's Punchestown Five Day Festival Hurdle over two-and-a-half miles.

"I've been quite happy with him in recent weeks," said the County Carlow trainer. "If he continues to please during the week he could well run on Saturday."

Hedgehunter, ninth in last season's Grand National, made a disappointing return to the track last month when he was pulled up in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase.
