Henman beaten by Tursunov again

Tim Henman's Wimbledon preparations suffered another setback after he was dumped out of the Nottingham Open by Dimitry Tursunov.

The second seed moved into the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (9-7) 3-6 6-2 victory over the British number two, who had chances of his own in blustery conditions on Centre Court.

The 32-year-old showed flashes of his best, volleying superbly along the way to the second set, which would have been enough for victory had he taken any of three opportunities to win the opening set.

World number 78 Henman will now arrive at the All England Club for next week's Grand Slam with just three grass-court games under his belt and has only one ATP Tour ranking victory since February.

Henman struggled to cope with the big Russian's serve early on and it came as no surprise when his own service was broken in the fourth game by his higher-ranked opponent.

His serve continued to look vulnerable to the world number 24's returns but the 32-year-old grew in confidence, executing some masterful volleys.

The 24-year-old Tursunov looked less comfortable at the net and Henman soon took advantage, breaking back to make it 3-4 before both players held serve to force a tie-break.

Two mini breaks from Henman put him 6-3 ahead with two serves in hand, but each time Tursunov was able to find a way through before stealing it 9-7.

There was at least still some British interest left in the competition after Jamie Murray and partner Eric Butorac booked their place in the doubles semi-finals with a 6-3 3-6 10-2 victory over Agustin Calleri and Nicolas Lapentti.

Murray said: "It's always good to get a win. Nobody likes to lose.

"I think we played pretty well today. We played one bad game in the second set but we played a good tie-break and we are through to the semi-finals.

"I don't see why we can't get right to the top. We compete with the best teams in the world; we don't necessarily beat them every time but we are a lot younger than everyone else so we are only going to keep learning and improving so I don't see why we can't go a lot higher."

Elsewhere, number one seed Richard Gasquet kept his bid for a third straight Nottingham title on track with a comprehensive 6-4 6-0 defeat of Jan Vacek.

The Frenchman will face compatriot Arnaud Clement in the quarter-finals after he took three sets to defeat Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Waiting for Tursunov in the next round is Guillermo Garcia-Lopez after he ended Sebastien Grosjean's challenge.
