Hiddink set to stay on as Russia coach after agent denies link to Chelsea

Guus Hiddink looks set to stay on as Russia coach beyond this year's European Championship after his agent dismissed rumours that he may join Chelsea.

The Dutchman guided Russia to Euro 2008 by finishing second to Croatia in a qualifying group that included England, and Hiddink has been linked to the Blues because of his friendship with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich is rumoured to be searching for a replacement for Avram Grant, who has guided the team to second in the Premier League and the Champions League semi-finals without the exciting style of play that the Chelsea owner wants.

But Cees van Nieuwenhuizen told the BBC that Hiddink does not plan on returning to club football.

"There is no chance of Guus going to Chelsea," Van Nieuwenhuizen was quoted as saying by the BBC on Monday. "He wants to end his career in international management.

"He signed a new deal in March that runs up to the 2010 World Cup and always honors his contracts."

The 61-year-old Hiddink, who has led the Netherlands and South Korea to the semifinals of the World Cup, took over as Russia coach in 2006. He guided the longtime underachiever to Euro 2008 and last month signed an extension to his original contract - which had been set to expire in July.

"I don't know where these stories about Guus come from and I want to put an end to them once and for all," Van Nieuwenhuizen said. "It isn't about money for Guus. It's about him having signed a contract and wanting to get on with his job with Russia."
