History man Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton finished yesterday's Bahrain Grand Prix on top of the world — co-leading the drivers' championship and rewriting the record books.

The 22-year-old Briton's second place here in the desert made him the first Formula One driver to clinch a podium finish on all three of his first races, eclipsing the starts made by the great champions of the past, including Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio.

Hamilton said: "I think it is a fantastic achievement. I am extremely proud. I'm looking forward to getting to Silverstone (for July's British Grand Prix) and seeing how many fans are there. I hope I'll still be able to walk the streets!"

Hamilton, from Tewin in Hertfordshire, made his debut in Melbourne last month when he finished third. He was second in Malaysia last week and threatened to go a step better in Bahrain, only to be pipped by Felipe Massa.
