How they rated in the Champions League final

LIVERPOOL (4-4-1-1)

PEPE REINA: 8 Helpless for the opening goal and exposed by his defence for the second.

STEVE FINNAN: 7 Defended well but never managed to break out in support of Pennant.

Reina woe: As Inzaghi wheels away to celebrate the opening goal

DANIEL AGGER: 6 Troubled by the movement of Inzaghi all night.

JAMIE CARRAGHER: 8 Led with customary determination, few deserved a winner's medal more.

JOHN ARNE RIISE: 7 Troubled by the overlapping Oddo, he was not his normal attacking threat.

JERMAINE PENNANT: 7 Had an early shot saved but wasted too many crossing chances.

JAVIER MASCHERANO: 8 A workhorse in midfield and a man to build a midfield around.

XABI ALONSO: 6 Unlucky to give away the crucial free-kick but never found his attacking form.

BOUDEWIJN ZENDEN: 6 Lacked the pace and penetration to get beyond the Milan back four.

STEVEN GERRARD: 7 Gave his all, unlucky with a first-half chance but wasteful in the second.

DIRK KUYT: 7 Starved of service, hardly given a ball to run on to. Sharp finish for Liverpool's goal.

SUBSTITUTES: Arbeloa for Finnan (88min), Crouch for Mascherano (78), Kewell for Zenden (58).

AC MILAN (4-3-2-1)

DIDA: 7 Made one good early save from Pennant but rarely troubled after that.

MASSIMO ODDO: 7 Kept Riise occupied and pinned in his own half. Rarely wrong-footed.

ALESSANDRO NESTA: 7 An assured display, his first-half block got Maldini out of jail.

PAOLO MALDINI: 6 Not at his best, a first-half error put Gerrard into a scoring position.

MAREK JANKULOVSKI: 7 An early mistake gave Pennant a chance but played well from then on.

GENNARO GATTUSO: 6 Biting tackles and superb engine, he never gave Liverpool any peace.

ANDREA PIRLO: 8 Some telling balls from midfield and struck the free-kick for the opener.

MASSIMO AMBROSINI: 7 Very much Milan's unsung hero, and as efficient as ever last night.

CLARENCE SEEDORF: 7 Not his best night as he found his space cramped by Mascherano.

KAKA: 8 A sublime first-half turn left Riise dizzy and won the freekick for the opening goal.

FILIPPO INZAGHI: 9 A menace with his runs. Gave a lesson in the art of playing alone up front.

SUBSTITUTES: Kaladze for Jankulovski (79min), Favalli for Seedorf (90), Gilardino for Inzaghi (89).
