Huffer: Rebel to be kept in training next season

Geoff Huffer has revealed that his dual Classic winner Cockney Rebel is to become only the fourth 2,000 Guineas winner in the past 20 years to be kept in training at four.

The son of Val Royal is currently on the comeback trail from a stress fracture to his pelvis sustained when finishing only fifth in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

On comebcak trail: Cockney Rebel

On his previous runs Cockney Rebel had become the first colt to land the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas since Rock Of Gibraltar in 2002.

After his win in Ireland, owner Phil Cunningham received an offer of £10million for his colt, a bid that is still understood to be on the table, but he is now likely to be seen on the racecourse in 2008.

Huffer said: "The plan is to keep Cockney Rebel in training at four. His recovery is on schedule and he is building up to return in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in September."
