Hutchings: No horror show

Chris Hutchings began his first full day as Wigan manager on Tuesday and assured worried fans there will be no re-run of Bradford City's horror show.

Hutchings went from being Paul Jewell's No 2 to No 1 at Bradford in 2000, but his reign lasted just 137 days and featured only one win as he was sacked in November and Bradford were ultimately relegated.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is confident enough in the 49-year-old to pledge up to £20million for summer signings.

And Hutchings, who found Bradford chairman Geoffrey Richmond's style too hands-on, says he now has a chairman in Whelan who will allow him to control the football side.

He said: "The difference at this club is that I'll be in charge of football matters — that's what I want and that's what I'll get."
