I thought we had won, says England bowling hero Wright

Luke Wright today admitted he was so caught up in the drama of yesterday's thrilling tie with New Zealand that he thought England had won.

While everyone else concentrated on Paul Collingwood's underarm throw that missed the stumps by a whisker, Wright believed he had bowled Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori with the final delivery of a rip-roaring match and was starting to celebrate.

"I actually thought it had bowled him so I was off celebrating," said Wright (right). "I was halfway through taking my shirt off, to be honest, and the next moment I looked up and we nearly got the run out, so I was a bit disappointed with the draw.

"I'm not sure exactly what happened, because the sun was in my eyes, but I thought the leg stump had gone. I don't think the shirt

really would have come off, though - I haven't got enough of a six pack!

"From six or seven overs out it looked as though we were gone. I think if anyone had offered us a draw at that stage we would have taken it, but then coming down to the last ball and them needing two you're a bit disappointed to get a tie."

England still have a chance of salvaging a draw from the five-match one-day series. Collingwood's side are 2-1 down ahead of the final match in Christchurch on Saturday and Wright added: "For the series to go into the last game is the worst scenario for them and we can take a lot of credit from the way we fought back.

"Hopefully we can take that into the last one and win it. To draw the series after losing the first two games would be a good result."
