I will do everything I can to beat Lewis, says McLaren team-mate Kovalainen

Heikki Kovalainen has vowed to carry next season's world title fight to Lewis Hamilton after demanding a guarantee from McLaren Mercedes that he and Britain's motor-racing sensation will be treated as equals.

Kovalainen revealed he only signed with McLaren as a replacement for two-times world champion Fernando Alonso after being assured that Hamilton will not receive more favourable treatment in 2008.

The 26-year-old Finn said: "One thing I wanted to establish before signing was that I'd be treated equally.

"I will do everything to try to beat Lewis and I'm sure he will do the same with me.

"I won't cause any problems within the team. If there are any issues we will talk and we will solve any problems more creatively."
