I'm just not interested in Villa anymore, slams Sorensen

Aston Villa's out-of-favour goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen wants to quit the club after giving up all hope of being offered a new contract.

The Danish international was Villa's number one for the previous three seasons but has struggled to even get on the substitute's bench during the current campaign.

On-loan Liverpool keeper Scott Carson has been first choice with Stuart Taylor his deputy for the majority of matches.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill chose to recall Sorensen and not place faith in Taylor when Carson was suspended for the game at Bolton after his sending-off against Manchester United.

Keen to move on: Thomas Sorensen is ready to leave Villa Park

Sorensen is out of contract next summer and the former Sunderland player is resigned to a future away from Villa Park.

Sorensen told the Birmingham Mail: "I am simply not interested any more. Villa have shown that they have no interest whatsoever to invest in me.

"Even if Martin O'Neill personally offered me a new contract tomorrow I wouldn't sign it.

"Martin O'Neill decided to recruit a new goalkeeper when I was injured. He then told me during a meeting that I shouldn't take my spot for granted.

"I said some things and the press exaggerated what had been said and that upset him. But I can't believe that would be a reason to punish me this way."

Sorensen added: "At this point I am open to all suggestions. If somebody shows me a contract, I will sign it, no matter what the offer is.

"But at the same time I don't want to play temporarily for some Japanese club either."

Sorensen could sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January if he is allowed to leave by O'Neill.

Meanwhile, Villa have appointed former Wembley chief executive Michael Cunnah as their new chief operating officer.

Cunnah held the Wembley post for four years until 12 months ago when the stadium was near completion. He was previously finance director at the Football Association.
