I'm ready for England...but haven't we heard that before, Marcus?
10 July 2007
Marcus Trescothick is set for an international comeback next month with a view to taking part in the Twenty20 World Championship, after assuring England that he is ready to end his enforced exile.
The selectors meet in Loughborough today to finalise a provisional 30-man squad for the tournament, which takes place in South Africa in September.

International return? Trescothick is in line for an England comeback
When the list is revealed tomorrow, it will provide conclusive proof that the 31-year-old Somerset left-hander has all but conquered the stress-related illness which has kept him out of the England team for the best part of a year.
However, while Trescothick has indicated that he is comfortable to be put on stand-by to return, the position will be re-assessed prior to the ICC's August 11 deadline for the squad to be whittled down to 15.
Furthermore, the national management want to see their big-hitting opener back in action before the end of the summer, to confirm his readiness for an overseas trip.
Therefore, as long as the man who has won 123 one-day caps for England is in the right frame of mind to return to the high-intensity international arena, he will be expected to make himself available for at least part of the NatWest Series against India.
Given that England face Rahul Dravid's men seven times from August 21 to September 8, there should be scope to ease Trescothick in at some point.
Peter Moores, the England coach, is evidently desperate to welcome back one of the country's most experienced and lethal one-day batsmen.
Yet, he, chairman of selectors David Graveney and Geoff Miller — the third member of the panel — have shown commendable restraint in leaving their prized asset to recover at his own pace.
Trescothick is likely to be joined in the Twenty20 squad by specialists from the county game, such as Darren Maddy, Mal Loye, James Benning and Mark Pettini.
England Test captain Michael Vaughan and Matthew Hoggard could be permitted to play in Yorkshire's LV County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston from Friday until next Monday — three days before the first npower Test against India at Lord's.
The pair are short of match practice and the first two days of the Roses match at Old Trafford were washed out.
