I'm still Arsenal No 1, insists Lehmann

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has admitted he was being "driven crazy" by claims of a rift with Wenger.

After losing his place in Arsenal's side to Manuel Almunia last month, Lehmann flew to Germany amid reports he had clashed with Wenger and was looking for a new club.

Lehmann: Driven 'crazy' by reports of rift with Wenger

The Germany goalkeeper, preparing for the Euro 2008 tie against Wales on Saturday, angrily insisted he was injured rather than paying the price for basic mistakes against Fulham and Blackburn, and he flared up again when quizzed about his relationship with Wenger.

Asked by the German media whether Wenger had wielded the axe in despair over his early-season clangers, the 37-year-old said: "Interpreting reports in the English press like that makes me crazy. Your interpretation really annoys me.

"All I know is that Wenger will give me the chance to play when I am fit and I will take it.

"I have no worries about reclaiming my place once I am fit. I feel I am the No 1 for Germany and Arsenal."
