That is according to Europe's team captain Nick Faldo who insisted he will not leave it until the last minute before making a decision on whether he can risk Donald at Valhalla.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury - a partial dislocation of his left wrist - during the US Open last month. He hasn't played since then and late last week the world No21 withdrew from the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Faldo revealed: "I've been receiving e-mails from Luke to keep me up to speed. He is contemplating therapy first and trying to put off surgery.

"He is a good, balanced guy who would give me an honest opinion on his fitness. He will be missed if he doesn't make it, but we will make up a 12-man team and will be all right."
