Inter examine options as Lampard is 'torn' between Chelsea and San Siro

Inter Milan have drawn up a list of alternative targets after president Massimo Moratti revealed Frank Lampard is ‘torn’ between staying at Chelsea and moving to the San Siro.

Chelsea have turned down a £6.5m bid from the Italians last week and are determined to hold on to the England midfielder, even if it means Lampard leaving for free in 12 months times.

Inter still hope the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho again will sway 30-year-old Lampard, but asked if they had drawn up a Plan B, Moratti said: ‘Yes, definitely.

‘Lampard is the priority but naturally in cases like this I have been looking around for some time. If it is not possible to take Lampard, we would take a player with the most similar characteristics.

‘Lampard is a very serious lad and certainly he is torn between having the pleasure of doing something new or having a sense of duty towards his current club — in the end it is up to him to find a solution.’
