Ipswich are poised to sign a goalkeeper from the Barclays Premier League as his replacement.

Alexander has been an ever-present in the Ipswich goal so far this season, making 29 starts, and proved his quality again with a penalty save against Plymouth last night.

He is expected to become deputy to Allan McGregor if he completes a move to Rangers.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton told official club website www.itfc.co.uk: "It is a dream move for Neil and we wouldn't stand in his way.

"He is back in the Scotland national squad and we are aware that he is very keen to push his international ambitions and a move back to Scotland will enhance that.

"We are now lining up a replacement from the Premiership and are confident we will have a new 'keeper in place inside the next 24 hours."
