ITV pay Setanta to bring England away qualifiers down to earth

ITV have agreed a deal with Setanta to televise highlights of England’s remaining away World Cup qualifiers.

The clash with Belarus on October 15 and next year’s games in Kazakhstan and Ukraine will now be shown on ITV shortly after Setanta finish their live satellite coverage.

It follows the public outcry earlier this month when Setanta failed to reach an agreement with terrestrial broadcasters to show highlights of England’s first two qualifiers away to Andorra and Croatia.

The Republic of Ireland have taken England’s place in a revived 'Home Nations Championship' to be held in 2011.

They will also host the ‘Four Associations Tournament’ involving Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the first two matches being played at the new Lansdowne Road in February and four more in May.

The FA have shown little enthusiasm to play in such an event since the British Home Championship was shelved in 1984.
