Ivan Campo hurt by two-minute phone call that ended his career at Bolton

Ivan Campo has revealed his sadness over the cold nature of his abrupt departure from Bolton after six years.

Fans' favourite Campo, 34, was released by manager Gary Megson following the club's successful survival campaign.

But the former Real Madrid defender said: "I never had the chance to say farewell. It is a bit sad that I had to find out from the coach in a two-minute phone call four days after the final game that he no longer wanted me.

"I fully understand he wants to play a different style of football and there is no room for a player like me. That's fine, but I would have liked to have been given the chance to say goodbye.

"One of the saddest things is that nobody from the club has been in contact to wish me good luck in my new adventure. At the least I expected a phone call from the chairman. I am very upset it has ended this way."
