I've come from Corrie to King Lear, says new Leicester boss Holloway

Ian Holloway took centre stage as the new manager of Leicester City yesterday after signing a three-and-a-half year deal.

Holloway, 44, who resigned at Plymouth on Wednesday, is the fifth manager to work under chairman Milan Mandaric since he took over Leicester earlier this year.

"I feel like I have been acting in Coronation Street all my life and now I am King Lear," said Holloway. "I just felt I couldn't turn this down. I can't wait to get started. This is a whole new challenge which throws me into a whole new ball park."

Coach Gerry Taggart and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell will continue in their roles at the club.

Holloway admitted he was letting Plymouth supporters down by moving to Leicester but explained it was a professional decision: "The fans will feel hurt and betrayed but I did the best I could for that club. There were things going on behind the scenes."

Mandaric said: "To have finally captured him gives me great joy. He has honesty, enthusiasm and drive."

Plymouth want their former boss Paul Sturrock, now at Swindon, to replace Holloway.
