Jamal gets jump on his old pals

Jamal Campbell-Ryce delivered the knock-out to his old club Southend with a spectacular 22nd-minute winner. The former Charlton prospect, who left Southend in August, outwitted former team-mate Lewis Hunt and whipped in a viciously swerving 25-yard shot.

Barnsley wanted revenge for their third round beating last season and Danny Nardiello, back on loan from QPR, should have put them ahead on six minutes but shot wide.

However, in the second half Barnsley's flamboyant German keeper Heinz Muller was the star, plunging to save Tommy Black's powerful shot and then turning aside a pointblank header by Adam Barrett from a corner.

Southend boss Steve Tilson said: 'When Jamal left us it was a good deal for both clubs but players like that always come back to haunt to you.'

Campbell-Ryce added: 'I still get on great with the lads here but it was marvellous to get the winner.'
