Jewell rants but Ramos is focused only on Cup glory

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos defended his coaching staff after they were accused of being disrespectful by Paul Jewell.

Derby manager Jewell had a bizarre post-match rant because Tottenham sent their club secretary, rather than manager or senior coach, to hand their team sheet over in the referee's room before kick-off.

Jewell said: 'I take the team sheet in and I am the manager and I think the referee deserves a bit more respect — more respect than the club secretary taking the team sheet in.

'I think the manager or one of the senior coaches should represent you. I didn't even know the name of the guy.'

Ramos responded cuttingly, simply saying: 'That's how we do things.'

The Tottenham manager is clearly preoccupied with more serious issues, as cup matters become the London club's focus. Their next matches are a Uefa Cup double-header against Slavia Prague followed by the Carling Cup Final.

The fitness of Michael Dawson, who limped off in the 14th minute, is Ramos' primary concern.

Dawson has torn a hamstring in his left leg and is expected to be out for at least a fortnight.

Tottenham will give Ledley King a late fitness test ahead of their game in Prague on Thursday night.

However, Tom Huddlestone played competently at centre back here and is preparing to continue in that role. The former Derby man also set up the first goal as his clever lob was picked up by Steed Malbranque, whose effort was parried by Roy Carroll before Robbie Keane tapped in from close range.

'I feel fairly comfortable playing at centre back and as long as I'm in the team I'm happy,' said Huddlestone.

The game changed early in the second half when Ramos brought on Dimitar Berbatov and Jamie O'Hara for Darren Bent and Kevin-Prince Boateng and once Keane put Tottenham in front, a comfortable away win never seemed in doubt.

Keane, who scored his 20th of the season, said: 'I think we were a bit sloppy in the first half but after the breakwe played football like Tottenham are known for. We've got three massive cup ties coming up. The cups are now what we're working towards. I can't see why we can't win the Carling Cup and the UEFA Cup.

'With the team we have here, we have a great chance. We're always going to score goals.'

Their second goal came from an unlikely source, though, as Younes Kaboul's uncharacteristically quick feet engineered a chance he drove in with his left foot. Berbatov added a late third from the penalty spot after a Malbranque strike was handled by Alan Stubbs.

It capped a frustrating afternoon for Stubbs who was making his Pride Park debut. He said: 'There is no one to blame but ourselves.'
