Jewell's jubilation as shoot-out seals first win for Derby boss

That £50million result in May at Sheffield United was also the last time Derby manager Jewell had tasted victory, and his team were booked into the same hotel just in case it brought some FA Cup luck.
It is worked a treat for Jewell as he watched his team come from behind to force extra-time and then hold their nerve to beat Wednesday 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out.

Earnshaw (centre) leads derby's celebrations
Spot kicks from Kenny Miller, Eddie Lewis, Rob Earnshaw and Craig Fagan saw Derby through as weary Wednesday missed twice — only ex- Derby men Marcus Tudgay and Deon Burton netted.
Derby's fightback from 2-0 down in the original third-round tie had the hallmarks of a Jewell performance, and he was keen to complete the job at Hillsborough over the club that sacked him as manager.
Wednesday, buoyant after a derby win over neighbours United, were determined to take the pressure further off manager Brian Laws and they snatched the lead through veteran Steve Watson.
But with the carrot of a winnable fourth-round home tie against Championship strugglers Preston, Derby hit back after the break with a coollytaken equaliser from Scotland striker Kenny Miller, and the game duly went into extra-time.
Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje, the wounded hero of Saturday's derby win, overcame his nagging ankle injury to take his place in Laws' starting line-up.
Laws was so relieved at Wednesday's weekend victory — only their second in nine League games — that he cavorted with a scarf given to him by his Wednesday-supporting wife for the occasion.
Jewell was threatening to do the Jose Mourinho celebration touchline dash himself, scarf et al, if his players performed.
But their miserable season — they have won only one League game, against Newcastle, and are rock bottom of the table with six points — did not look like improving in the early stages.
Lewis Price has had to pick the ball out of Derby's net too often in his seven games this campaign and he was soon bending his back again.
Derby actually made the brighter start, giving their healthy following the hope that they could be watching FA Cup football again come Saturday's fourth round.
Miller fired in an early vicious angled shot that Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant, a former Pride Park favourite, did very well to turn around his near post for a corner.
When Grant was forced to punch out another mighty effort from the lively Craig Fagan, and all this with barely eight minutes on the clock, it seemed the Championship side would be under real pressure.
But it was Price who was beaten after 10 minutes when Jermaine Johnson delivered a cross from the right that Watson drilled expertly across the keeper and just inside his left-hand post.
The former Newcastle veteran, who stepped into Laws' side because Ronnie Wallwork was cup-tied, celebrated his second goal since joining Wednesday on a free summer transfer from West Bromwich.
Derby were cursing, but it could have been worse for Jewell's team soon after when Wade Small swapped passes with former Derby striker Marcus Tudgay only to shoot over the bar under pressure.
Winger Johnson is certainly no Chris Waddle, but he can generate some excitement, and a swerving shot that veered wide at the last second drew gasps from the crowd.
Gary Teale had a sudden opportunity to haul Derby level but he lost his composure and trundled a disappointing half-hit shot past Grant's far post with the Wednesday defence at sixes and sevens.
Glenn Whelan showed him how to give a goalkeeper the jitters by launching a long centre from the touchline that caught out Price and skimmed the top of his crossbar as it landed on the netting.
Price's confidence didn't seem to be at its highest, nor did his defenders help his cause with needless backpasses, and Wednesday's fans scented the possibility of a second goal.
Derby had an anxious moment when Fagan headed a Whelan corner towards his own goal before Giles Barnes had to come off feeling unwell, to be replaced by Eddie Lewis.
Derby's travelling army in the 18,000 crowd booed at half-time but were raising the roof after 47 minutes when Miller controlled Stephen Pearson's fine through ball before steering a low shot beyond Grant.
Sheff Wed: Grant, Bullen, Hinds, Beevers, Spurr, Whelan, Watson, Johnson, Small, Sodje, Tudgay. Subs: Gilbert, Lunt, Burton, Wood, Clarke.
