Johnson finally set to seal his move from Everton to Fulham

expect the transfer of striker Andrew Johnson to to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Owner and chairman Bill Kenwright held talks with Craven Cottage officials in London on Monday night  to thrash out a deal.

The original move had stalled over the weekend because Fulham were concerned about signs of an old ankle injury that showed up on a scan last week.

Fulham were believed to have wanted to renegotiate the initial payment for the England forward.

It is believed, though, that the up-front payment was initially still less than half of a fee which could rise to around £13million.

Some minor adjustments over instalments have been negotiated, but from Everton's point of view the final fee could still reach that maximum figure dependent on appearances.

Kenwright also held talks with Everton officials in London in the wake of speculation that the theatre impresario wanted to put the club up for sale.

But Everton have played down that situation, insisting Kenwright's position is unchanged.

An Everton spokesman said: 'As far as Bill is concerned, the club has been for sale for the last five years, this is nothing new.

'Bill has always said that he would sell the club if the right people with the right finance came along.'

The main concern at the club is the failure to sign any new players yet, a situation that has frustrated boss David Moyes, who brings his squad back from their US tour later this evening (Tuesday).

And Moyes has now admitted that even if the club do sign any new players in the next week or so, it is unlikely they would be integrated into the squad in time for the new campaign, which starts in 11 days.

Moyes said: 'I was hoping to have added to the squad by now and brought a few in to give the players a lift.

'It is not just a new face we need, it is new faces. My big concern is that anybody we bring in now probably will not be ready to start the Premier League season. It's now getting to the stage where you are wondering how long it takes for new players to settle.'

The Goodison chief is trying to remain positive as the new campaign approaches.

He said: 'I am hoping we will have some in before the start of the season. But I am not going to turn around and say I am totally confident because you never know what happens. But, yes, I am hoping that we will end up getting a few in.'

And skipper Phil Neville has revealed that Moyes went out of his way in the US at the weekend to calm fears about the club's future amongst his players.

Neville said: 'He let us know in no uncertain terms that the season is only two weeks away.

He told us that we had to stop feeling sorry for ourselves, stop thinking about who we are going to bring in, stop thinking about everything else that is going on and to just get on with playing football.

'We cannot do anything about what is happening with transfers and the other speculation.

'All we can do is play football and, apart from Lee Carsley, it is the same starting XI that was here last season, so we have no excuses.'
