Johnson's pacy South Central aiming to join the masterclass at Royal Ascot

South Central goes in the shop window at Royal Ascot next week, with trainer Howard Johnson claiming he has more pace than his 2005 Norfolk Stakes winner Masta Plasta.

Johnson is more closely associated with jumpers but he has unearthed some quick juveniles and went close in the Norfolk again last season with runner-up Art Advisor.

South Central, the mount of Robert Winston, sluiced in by 13 lengths at Carlisle and goes for either Tuesday's Coventry Stakes or Thursday's Norfolk. Johnson said: 'This horse is quicker than Masta Plasta and he was a very good two-year-old.'

He added: 'I've had some very good offers for him and I'll hopefully get him sold after Ascot.'
