Jol on his way out but Sevilla coach won't commit to Spurs
21 August 2007
A source close to Ramos today confirmed he is considering an offer to replace Jol, having met club officials in a Seville hotel last week.

Juande Ramos is thinking over Tottenham's offer
Ramos and Tottenham both denied a meeting took place but the 52-year-old was only trying to keep his Sevilla players focused on the big matches they have coming up.
He is determined to lead the side in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens, their first game in La Liga against Getafe and the UEFA Super Cup Final against AC Milan on 1 September.
But Ramos is tempted by the offer presented by Spurs vice-chairman Paul Kemsley and club secretary John Alexander and has told them to wait until early next month for a decision.
The Ramos source confirmed: "Despite what has been said, the meeting did take place. Tottenham wanted to keep it quiet, but they could not stop the photographs from being printed.
"Ramos has been very unhappy with things behind the scenes at Sevilla but doesn't want to leave yet.
"He is thinking hard about the Tottenham offer and it could go either way. It is 50-50 at the moment. If he goes the Sevilla fans will be very upset. They love him."
Sevilla, however, insist Ramos will stay.
"He has a year left on his contract," the club's sporting director Ramon Rodriguez said today.
"There is no doubt we want him to continue."
It has been reported that chairman Daniel Levy approached Ramos after Jol had a bust-up with star striker Dimitar Berbatov and demanded he be sold.
The row with Berbatov, who is now out with a groin injury, allegedly took place after the Bulgarian showed his displeasure at being substituted against Sunderland on the opening day of the season.
Levy is determined to keep the 26-year-old, who has been a target of Manchester United, and is ready to let Jol go instead.
But Berbtatov's agent, Emil Dantchev, today denied any reports of a spat with Jol, saying: "I can tell you, there is not a problem."
Kicked out: Jol is facing the boot at Spurs
Nevertheless, there is speculation in Spain that Ramos had been alerted to the possibility of a vacancy at White Hart Lane earlier in the summer.
He was competing with Spurs for the signing of Hertha Berlin midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng but dropped out suddenly, allowing the 20-yearold to move to north London.
Ramos also began taking English lessons last season.
The Spurs board are convinced he is the right man to take the club to the next level, having won five trophies for Sevilla in 15 months. But they have lined up other possible candidates in case he turns them down — Marcello Lippi and Harry Redknapp have also been linked with the Spurs post.
It is understood that Kemsley and Alexander also used their trip to Spain to lodge a £10million bid with Villarreal for Juan Roman Riquelme.
The Argentinian international spent the second half of last season on loan at Boca Juniors and his representative, Marcos Franchi, said: "If nothing new appears I think they should accept this offer as it is good for the club and the player."
Meanwhile, £10m summer signing Gareth Bale has recovered from thigh and ankle injuries and could make his first competitive appearance of the season by playing for Wales against Bulgaria tomorrow.
