Jones finally comes clean over doping

Marion Jones has admitted to doping before the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, it was reported yesterday.

The American sprinter's confession was made in a note to friends, according to the Washington Post.

Jones, who won five medals in Sydney, said she took 'the clear' — a performance-enhancing drug linked to the disgraced Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO) — for two years beginning in 1999 but claimed that former coach Trevor Graham said it was flaxseed oil.

Until now, Jones had denied doping.

The 31-year-old also said she will plead guilty today in New York to two counts of lying to federal agents about her doping.

British sprinter Dwain Chambers' career was ruined after a two-year ban for using drugs obtained from BALCO.
