Jonny op comes early but not soon enough

Jonny Wilkinson will go under the knife earlier than planned after Newcastle were knocked out of the European Challenge Cup by Worcester.

But he will still not be fit in time to fight to wear the No 10 jersey on England's two-Test tour to New Zealand in June.

Newcastle centre Jamie Noon could also miss the New Zealand tour after limping off with more ankle problems.

Wilkinson — needing surgery to 'clear out debris' from a shoulder — and Newcastle were outmuscled by a Worcester side who now take on Bath in the final at Kingsholm next month.
