They have made it clear that they want to build their midfield around the Brazilian next season.

The Turin side are six points clear at the top of Serie B and are on course for an immediate return to Serie A after being relegated in the wake of the match-fixing scandal last year.

Gilberto, 30, has two years left on his Arsenal contract and is aware that he will be offered only a one-year deal when it ends. Juventus are willing to match Gilberto's £40,000-a-week wages and offer him a four-year contract.

Despite the emergence at Arsenal this season of 19-year-old Denilson and the steady progress made by 20-year-old Abou Diaby, Arsene Wenger believes neither are yet ready to partner Cesc Fabregas in central midfield on a regular basis.

Wenger has high regard for Gilberto's experience and the Brazilian has been one of Arsenal's most consistent performers in a disappointing campaign.

Meanwhile, striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still in talks with the club about extending his spell beyond 2010.

Negotiations were held up following the departure of vice-chairman David Dein.
