Kaboul injury is a kick in the teeth for Spurs

Tottenham got their South African tour off to a winning start but it was overshadowed by injury to £8million signing Younes Kaboul, seconds into the 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs.

The France Under 21 captain became their sixth defender to be injured this summer and had to have several teeth glued back after being kicked in the face by former Charlton striker Shaun Bartlett.

Kaboul is expected to miss the rest of the Vodacom Challenge.

Boss Martin Jol, who had to field a makeshift defence with Ricardo Rocha and Phil Ifill as full backs, said: "Rocha is a central defender but had to play at right back because we had no one else. Pascal Chimbonda is injured and so are all three left backs."

Spurs face Orlando Pirates tomorrow and play their final game in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Meanwhile Edgar Davids is out for three months after suffering a broken leg playing for Ajax in a pre-season friendly. The match, against Go Ahead Eagles, was abandoned because of fighting in the stands.
