Kanoute threat to Jol's Cup ambition

Tottenham manager Martin Jol has warned his players not to let their underdog status get to them in Seville on Thursday night.

Spurs face a tough test in the first leg of their UEFA Cup quarter-final against the holders and while Jol's side have breezed into the last eight, he admits that most observers will see the Spanish side as favourites.

'He is a fantastic player and has done very well over there,' says Keane about former team-mate Kanoute

"Like Chelsea, people look at Sevilla on paper and think they are better than us," he conceded. "They were voted UEFA team of the year last season ahead of Barcelona and they also beat the Champions League winners in the European Super Cup last August. They deserve our respect.

"Europe has been a real bonus in terms of experience and confidence building. We are proud to be England's sole survivors in the competition and are determined to go all the way to the final."

Standing in their way is a side that includes Tottenham old boy Fredi Kanoute, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season.

Former strike partner Robbie Keane said: "He is a fantastic player and has done very well over there. It will be nice to shake his hand after the game - following a Tottenham win.

"He is a tall lad, great in the air but also has good feet.

"The fact he is top scorer in Spain speaks for itself. It is a strong league with world-class players. It is something we have to keep an eye on."
